Introduction
'The Stad&Ommelandtocht' is unique!
A marvellous Canoe - Camping - Tour which takes a whole week.
A varying trip through Province and Town of Groningen, passing ancient tidal creeks, lakes, canals and the town moats, thereby avoiding larger canals as much as possible. Enjoy space and tranquillity, enjoy your trip through the province of Groningen.

Every day you can choose from three different routes. The sum of all shorter routes amounts to a total of ± 120 km; all longest routes ± 235 km. Participants receive a handy tour guide with clear indications and route maps. In this guide you will also find touristic information in English.

When and where?
The tour starts and ends in Winsum. The tour lasts from Sunday the 7th of August until Sunday the 14th of August. From day to day:

Sunday: ARRIVAL in WINSUM.
Camping: Marenland-recreatie at 'Winsumerdiep', tel. (0595) 44 27 50. Staying overnight from Sunday until Monday is included in the program, as wel as parking on a sheltered lot near the camping. Please report between 15.00 and 19.00 hrs. (administration and handing over of tour guide) at the de camping.

Monday: WINSUM-ZOUTKAMP; 19, 25 or 32 km.
Collective start: 10.30 am. Camping: De Rousant, tel. (0595) 40 25 00.

Tuesday: ZOUTKAMP-LETTELBERT; 23, 31 of 33 km.
Camping: De Hondehoek, tel. (0594-51) 77 17.

Wednesday: LETTELBERT-HAREN; 16.5, 23.9 of 38.2 km.
Camping: Groninger kano vereniging, tel. (050) 527 00 30.

Thursday: DAY OF REST.
There are several possibilities! You can easily visit the town of Groningen by public transport or rental bicycle.

Friday: HAREN - STEENDAM; 25.8 of 30.2 km.
Camping: De Otter, tel. (0598) 43 15 43.

Saturday: STEENDAM - TEN POST; 19.4, 31.3 of 49.1 km.
Camping: De Banjer, tel. (050) 302 36 98. Barbeque at festal last evening is included!

Sunday: TEN POST - WINSUM; 18.3, 29 of 39.2 km.
Please report arrival between 14.00 and 18.00 hrs. at the camping.

Please take your own canoeing equipment. It is however possible to rent: the organization can advise you. Further, bring your own cooking and camping gear. All campings are situated directly at the water side. Luggage transport can be provided.
Please register transport of luggage before the 1st of July!

For whom?
Canoeing enthusiasts from all countries in kayaks and canoes, families, 'mile eaters' are all welcome. THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS IS 100. So it is strongly recommended to register early!

The shorter stretches present ideal recreative and active holidays, but at an average speed of 5 kms an hour one must be able to paddle at least 4 to 5 hours a day.
The middle and certainly the longest distances present an attractive challenge for the faster and well trained participants.
The only and absolute prerequisite for participation is that you are able to swim.
The minimum age to participate independently is 16 years.
Children under that age can participate under the guidance and responsibility of one or more adults. At lakes and larger canals with professional inland navigation there is a possibility to paddle in a convoy.
It must be clear that you will partake of the tour at your own risc.

Costs
Members of BCU or CCC pay: € 100.00 - otherwise: € 125.00.
Additional costs for transport of luggage are: € 35,00.
Children until 4 years pay € 20.00 and from 4 until 11 years € 40.00 plus free transport of luggage.

The total amount must be paid in advance AFTER CONFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION and BEFORE THE 1ST OF JULY.
Payments will be returned totally or partly depending on the time of cancellation, based on superior forces.

Registration
Registration is possible by using the registration form (see menu left). EACH PARTICIPANT has to fill out this form and send it back BEFORE THE 1ST OF JULY. Registration of later date is only possible after consultation.

Tips!

Keep this leaflet with telephone numbers of the campings for the people at home.

Take care that your canoeing and camping equipment is in good order!

At all stretches of the route it is obligatory to have a spraydeck!

We advize to bring a watertight cover for the tour guide (A4 format).

Bring along (Thermos)flasks. It is necessary to drink and you will not find terraces eveywhere!
